Olympus has announced a new zoom lens that would be great for travel photographers or anyone who wants to cover a wide range of focal lengths with just one lens. The M.Zuiko ED 12-200 f/3.5-6.3 zoom weighs just one pound and covers an EFL of 24-400mm (16.6x) and has the largest zoom range of any mirrorless, interchangeable lens. But it’s not a cheap piece of glass. This new lens is made like a tank with weatherproof construction.
It features a Z.E.R.O. nano coating to reduce flare, has an incredible close focusing distance of 8.7 inches, and offers a .46x magnification (EFL.)
While this is not one of the “Pro Line” lenses in the Olympus system, it has many pro features like the aforementioned weather sealing and a super fast and precise autofocus. The 12-200mm F3.5-6.3 is equipped with a single, lightweight internal focusing element that allows the lens to focus extraordinarily fast. An MSC (Movie & Still Compatible) mechanism means this lens is just as quiet as it is fast, making it an ideal choice for still photographers and video shooters alike.
For photographers who want an all-in-one solution to just about any type of photographic challenge, the ideal single lens choice just may be the new 12-200 from Olympus.
Expected shipping date in March, 2019.
