My Basic Bosque del Apache Photo Kit

My Basic Bosque del Apache Photo Kit

Sandhill crane photo by Scott Bourne

I am on the road to Bosque del Apache, National Wildlife Refuge near Socorro, NM. I will be speaking at the Festival of the Cranes and leading two small group workshops. (Both workshops sold out but I had three cancellations due to medical problems so those seats are now once again available at a $300 discount – each. Email scott@scottbourne.com if you are interested.)

I am driving this year so that I can check out some other locations en route, with Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge (near Brigham City, UT) being one of my primary stops along the way.

I have spent the last year equipping my 2019 RAM Rebel as a photo mobile. I have made many modifications (see the whole list at ramtruckguy.com) and I am really looking forward to the long drive.

I just finished cutting the foam inserts for my gear. These fit specially in the DECKED drawer system. I also have room in other parts of the truck but all the real photo stuff goes in the drawers.

I am packing the following…

Three Olympus OM-D E-M1 X camera bodies
Two Olympus M.Zuiko Digital MC-14 1.4x Teleconverters
One Olympus MC-20 M.Zuiko Digital 2x Teleconverter
One Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO Lens
One Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO Lens
One Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm f/4 IS PRO Lens
One Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm f/1.2 PRO Lens
One Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.2 PRO Lens
One Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14 mm f/2.8 PRO Lens
One Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f/1.8 PRO Lens
One Olympus Tough TG-6 Digital Camera
One Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III camera body
One Olympus FL-900R Electronic Flash
One MAGMOD MagBeam Wildlife Kit Collapsible Flash Diffuser
One Promaster GH30C Professional Carbon Fiber Gimbal Head
One Induro Grand Turismo GTT104M1 Carbon 8X travel tripod with BHM1 Ballhead
One Manfrotto MPMXPROC5US Carbon Fiber XPRO Monopod+
One Edelkrone Slider One +
One Platypod Ultra
One Platypod Maxx

And a host of related accessories.

I can work out of the truck. The drawers slide out nicely so I can quickly grab and replace any gear as needed. The entire setup was expensive and time consuming. While I don’t mind a bit, I cannot recommend that civilians go through as much trouble as I did. It’s really not necessary. I just did it because I could. 🙂

As I make my way south I will document the trip as best as I can.

I know some of you are headed that way so be sure to say hello if you see me at Bosque.
